On 17 April, Iran announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz… only to close it again the very next day, until the US blockade of Iranian ports was lifted.
On 21 April, Donald Trump unilaterally extended the truce with Iran until further notice to allow negotiations, mediated by Pakistan, to continue despite everything. This did not prevent the US Navy from attacking an Iranian cargo ship or Iran from firing on vessels in the strait.
In this endless standoff, Donald Trump is under pressure to extricate himself from this war in which he has become entangled and whose global economic consequences are being felt heavily. Meanwhile, the Iranian regime, though greatly weakened, has realised that time is on its side… But for how long?
